All are invited to celebrate the life and legacy of The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at a free concert by the Music For Everyone Community Chorus on Sunday, Jan. 19, at 3 p.m. at St. John’s.
The chorus, under the direction of AJ Walker, will sing a diverse repertoire featuring concert spirituals and songs from the Philippines, Africa, Israel and Peru. A free will offering will benefit Music for Everyone programs in Lancaster schools.
During intermission, on behalf of St. John’s, Lancaster Mayor The Honorable Rick Gray will present the Prolonging the Dream Award to the chorus. The award recognizes organizations which embody Dr. King’s commitment to community, peace and hope.
Music For Everyone is a non-profit charitable organization with the mission of cultivating the power of music for education and community-building. The chorus is a part of that mission.
The concert and award presentation are part of St. John’s annual celebration of Dr. King. A program for children in grades 1-5 on Monday, Jan. 20, will feature peace-making activities, music and crafts.
