Adult Formation is a crucial part of our lives as followers of Jesus. Throughout the year, various series and workshops are offered ranging from bible studies, book studies, and social justice concerns.

Lenten Soup and Book Study | Every Wednesday in March, join us for soup and a Lenten book study. Dinner will take place at 5:30PM with the book discussion beginning at 6pm. We will be reading and discussing Sabbath as Resistance: Saying No to the Culture of Now by Walter Brueggeman. Please sign up here so we can make sure to have enough food: St. John’s: Lenten Soup Supper and Book Discussion. Books are available in the Parish hall.
Adult Forum | Each Sunday during Lent, you’re invited to join the clergy in the All Purpose room for Contemplative Prayer from 9:15-10:00am. This will be a time where we engage in a short Lenten reflection and make time for prayer and silence.
“Christian mediation is the prayer of the heart – silent, simple, and attentive. Rather than thinking about or speaking to God, we practice being with God in the present moment. Meditation is not about achieving any particular results but rather attention and faithfulness. Over time, this loving attention quiets the mind, deepens trust, and gradually transforms our lives in God’s presence.”
Weekly Bible Study | Every Wednesday at 2:00 p.m., a group meets in the Parish Hall for a lively discussion of the Holy Scriptures. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend!
Before summer break, we completed the Old Testament, and the group has elected to do something that few study groups do—read the Apocrypha. We will begin doing that in September before proceeding on to the New Testament. Current textbook is “The Apocrypha”, edited by Gale Yee, et. al. Newcomers are welcome at any meeting.
Education for Ministry | Do you want to know more about the Bible, Christian Tradition and History? How group study and discussion can bring you closer to God and prepare for ministry? If so, EfM (Education for Ministry) may be for you.
EfM: Classic is a four-year Christian formation program designed for lay persons by the School of Theology, University of the South at Sewanee. Through study, prayer, worship, and reflection, EfM seminar groups journey together through scripture, church history, and theology. Year 1 focuses on the Old Testament; Year 2, on the New Testament; Year 3, on Christian History; and Year 4, on Christian Ethics and Spirituality. Each year has a specific theme. For 2025-26, the theme is The Journey With God.
EfM: Wide Angle, new this year, is a one-year overview where learners can “dip a toe” into the subjects covered in the four “Classic” years.
