Sacred Stitches by Jeannie Zeller
The summer Sacred Stitches gathering was hosted by St. Andrew’s in Shippensburg on Saturday, July 12. The attendees were from: Calvary, Camp Hill, St. James, Lancaster, St. John’s, Lancaster, and St. Stephen’s, Harrisburg.
One of the highlights of our Sacred Stitches gatherings is learning about the host church’s craft ministry. For instance, St. Andrew’s Quilters pieced and completed more than 230 lap robes for Pennsylvania VA hospitals and their church members who are shut-in. They also make items for the Pumpkin Patch, their annual fall bazaar.
After St. Andrew’s quilters explained their ministry, attendees enjoyed some impromptu quilt shopping. The Rev. Barbara Hutchinson, St. Andrew’s rector, joined our group and gave us a guided tour of the church (see photo) and the adjacent Episcopal Home. We were also treated to dessert with the residents after our lunch break. We gained new insight into the great things happening at our Diocesan home.
A few thank yous: a care package of pocket prayer shawls is on its way to St. Andrew’s for residents of the Episcopal Home, and to Paula Knerr and other quilters for the opportunity to learn and do some early Christmas shopping!
Please mark your calendars for our fall gathering¸ hosted by St. Thomas, Lancaster, on Saturday, September 13.
