St. John’s members Anne Carroll and her daughters, Helena and Evelyn, set up and worked at the Soles For Souls information table in the children’s room at the Gifts that Give Hope alternative gift fair, held Saturday, Nov. 22 at the Farm and Home Center, Lancaster. Anne and Helena ran activities at the table and talked with children about the Soles for Souls shoe-collection program and St. John’s efforts to help collect shoes for the program. Evelyn stamped children’s hands with “feet” stamps.
Barbara Landis planned the activities and gathered the necessary information, and Fran Gouveia, Sue Heilman, Maria Sauder and Marylee Sauder helped at the table on the day of the fair. The table was one of about 10 in the children’s room, all aimed at introducing children to different organizations and helping them understand ways they can help others. The children’s room was part of the larger Gifts that Give Hope alternative gift fair, which encourages people to forgo store-bought gifts and instead purchase gifts that are donations to organizations that help local and global communities.
