Essence of Joy Alumni Singers to perform at concert celebrating MLK

The community is invited to celebrate the life and legacy of The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at a concert by The Essence of Joy Alumni SingersSaturday, January 13 at 3 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 321 W. Chestnut St., Lancaster. The chorus is comprised of alumni of the Essence of Joy Choir of The Pennsylvania State University.

 Under the direction of Dr. Anthony T. Leach, professor of music/music education at Penn State, the group strives to inspire and unify with performances of sacred and secular music from the African and African-American choral traditions. The chorus has performed nationally and internationally, and released its first CD, entitled “Joy,” in 2011.

Admission is free. A freewill offering to support the chorus will be accepted. Following the concert, a reception will be held in St. John’s Parish Hall.
