Safe Church Event This Sunday at 9:15 a.m.

There will be a Safe Church educational session this Sunday (December 3) at 9:15 a.m. in the Becker House living room.

The session will cover the logistics of getting clearances, how to recognize symptoms of abuse in children and what to do if a child discloses abuse to you.

The presenter will be Deb Helt, who is senior facilitator and congregation support specialist at Samaritan Safe Church and part of the pastoral team for the independent congregation, Hosanna! A Fellowship of Christians, in Lititz. Deb works with Safe Church congregations throughout this region and also provides follow-up support for faith communities engaging in the Safe Church process.

St. John’s became a Safe Church after a yearlong process in 2015. As it states in our Safe Church Policy, St. John’s feels “a responsibility to ensure that children in our care grow and develop in a church environment that is safe and with a church family that empowers them to speak up if they believe something isn’t right.”

If you have questions about Sunday’s session, please contact Marylee Sauder at 717-471-5036.

PLEASE NOTE: Some of the information covered in this session may be triggering for survivors.
